Hope you get all the treats on your list!
Love,
Primo
P.S. This is as close as Preems would get to wearing a Santa hat.
Boxers at altitude are just as bonkers as boxers at sea level. Having two doesn't help.

Play Date
Today I'm happy to introduce a celebrity guest puppy! Cera, a beautiful 8-month-old female Cane Corso, came to meet Primo and put the little furball in his place.
What we didn't expect was (1) Primo thinks he's the same size as her and (2) Cera's too sweet to ever do anything but nudge the little guy with her head (when he clearly deserved more). These two played for hours, pausing only when asked to sit for treats.
The only time Preems took advantage of his size was at the end when he was tired. Then he would just antagonize poor Cera (who tried to mind her own business by laying down about 16 times) and hide under a chair. Chicken.
Fortunately, they made up and were inseparable by the end of the day.
So sweet. I think they love each other.

This seems inherently unfair. |

Fetish
Our puppy has a fetish. It's nothing kinky or weird - I mean, hello, he's not even three months old yet. But when it comes to stairs, he can't get enough.
Inside, outside, wood, carpet - Primo doesn't care. He just wants to climb them and climb them quickly. And, in his perfect world, he would either be racing me up (generally when it's cold out - refer to our No. 2 problem in previous posts) or keeping pace with me between my feet. Either way, someone is going to end up injured and, given my track record, it's probably going to be me.
The cutest part is how he goes down the stairs. His balance is off because he's still growing, so he puts his front legs on the step below and then swings his rear-end around to get the back legs down. As you can imagine, this can create some serious momentum and often results in the little guy somersaulting rather spectacularly to the bottom. What's crazy is that the fall never phases him (maybe because I'm there to catch the little furball 99% of the time). He just gets up, wags his entire rear-end (the usual effect of having no tail), and starts looking for an ornament to steal off the Christmas tree. I wish I was that resilient when I fall.
Preems is super cute here, but all I can see is our need to dust. |

Primo Rocks
I think I now know how parents feel when they just spent $100 on the most amazing new toy for their children, only to have the kids spent 6 hours making the box for the toy into a fort. Primo began exploring the great outdoors today and definitely likes snow, dirt, and folding chairs way more than the boatload of toys we bought for him. He even picked up a rain gutter in his mouth and tried to walk away. (We're going to have to bolt those down better when he gets bigger.) Other interesting developments:
1. He's learning how to dig. Granted, he's just pawing at landscape rocks now, but I think that's the gateway drug to digging what equates to small smuggling tunnels under the neighbor's fence.
2. He spent 30 minutes playing with one of those landscaping rocks. He was so intent on the rock that he kept turning his back on me when I tried to take pictures. His only distractions were the periodic crashes and cussing coming from another neighbor who was trying to hang Christmas lights.
3. He's ringing the potty bells just to go hang-out on the deck. (We're trying to train Preems to ring bells by the door whenever he has to go to the bathroom.) For the record, I'm thrilled that the little guy is linking the bells to the yard. BUT - he wants to go outside all the time. And it's like a squirrel highway out there, so that should be interesting.
Fortunately, with all that outdoor excitement comes extreme exhaustion.

All Day I Dream About... Shoes
Lately it's become pretty evident that Primo truly belongs with our family. Besides his adorable face and sweet personality (so much in common!), Preems loves shoes. High on his list are shoes recently worn by one of us and, if none of those are available, he'll make do with anything that has laces. Adidas are a delicacy.
In fact, shoes turned Primo into, well, an animal tonight. We started out with this angelic puppy:
And, five minutes later, after one whiff of a prime piece of athletic footwear:
No shoe is safe. And, given the sheer number of shoes here, our house is like a buffet.
We're buying more gates this weekend.
(I just want to clarify that Primo only had the shoe long enough for me to get a good pic. I keep telling everyone that being a "photojournalist" sometimes requires sacrifices to be made. I also reserve the right to change my position on this when it's my shoe under attack.)

Crate, Sweet Crate
If only we all had an ugly, gray plastic crate to crawl into when the going gets tough. Or when we get sleepy. Or when we're sick of people talking high-pitched nonsense while putting squeaky stuffed animals directly in front of our faces.
Fortunately, Primo has a crate and he looooves it. He goes in willingly and naps constantly, which is great for his humans who are desperately trying to keep the house clean in his wake. Soon he'll outgrow this little puppy oasis, but we'll be ready with a larger, more deluxe model. And, if that doesn't work, aren't there hotels in Japan that kind of look like this now?
